Health Language Inc. (HLI) and Softworks Group have partnered to incorporate the SNOMED CT coding into Softworks’ synoptic reporting solution “Synoptec”. The joint project takes advantage of HLI’s web service delivery features to incorporate real-time lookups of standard terminology to locate SNOMED equivalents. Once established in the underlying template, the SNOMED CT coding is mapped automatically to synoptic values reported without requiring the end user to have any expertise in the coding system.

Founded in 2000, the HLI Language Engine (LE) enables integrated and intelligent management of all enterprise health-related terminology in a single environment, allowing local changes and mappings to be merged with periodic releases from standards bodies. This lets healthcare IT applications reference the latest terminology versions, thereby enabling effective use of accurate clinical information and administrative codes.

Kenneth A. Kleinberg, Vice President Business Development, of Health Language Inc., had this to say about the project:

HLI recognizes that healthcare is being transformed by leading healthcare organizations such as Softworks Group and their innovative approaches to developing next-generation electronic health applications and cancer reporting systems. The ability of Softworks Group to use HLI capabilities to provide an interactive environment for template development and to deliver terminologies to healthcare applications via a web services approach (hosted by Softworks Group or other organizations, or by HLI) provides a vehicle for Softworks Group to bring terminology capabilities to its users, clients, and partners in a cost-effective way with a scalable growth path.
