Softworks Group Inc. was incorporated in 1990 and is a privately held corporation. Our company was founded by Tim Edlund who continues to lead the organization and is our CEO.
Softworks began as a general software development house offering services to a broad range of industries including: manufacturing, tax administration, healthcare and professional associations. The company developed a broad base of expertise in a wide variety of project types. The key project management skills of our current management group were developed and refined through these experiences.
As our company grew, globalization increased our opportunities, but also the level of competition. As a result, we began executing a strategy of increasing specialization. Our focus shifted from providing general programming services, to providing reusable framework products in a few specific areas.
We recognized that by creating flexible framework products we could leverage the experience and value in previous projects and offer that value to our clients. This strategy also reduced risks associated with ground-up software development for both ourselves and our clients. While offering a product had many benefits, we were also aware that the markets we were focusing on were extremely complex and often have legislative, interface and business process requirements that simply don't lend themselves to off-the-shelf software. A few configuration options in a package just wasn’t going to cut it - we needed a structure and toolbox from which to create solutions rather than a software package it would take months to customize.
Our solution was to develop software frameworks that captured experience and best practices from others, but were designed to accept new underlying models and accept extension and component replacement without extensive retrofitting.
While our frameworks were an important part of our story, they only represent a technical component. Our evolution included a parallel initiative to increase the domain knowledge of our staff in our chosen market areas and to develop communities of collaboration with our clients.
Our value proposition became one that was based on the combination of technology, deep domain knowledge and community collaboration, which produced a model of best practices we were able to incorporate into our frameworks.
Today Softworks is a leading provider of solutions for cancer surgery outcome measurement (WebSMR™), cancer screening (DetectOne™), cancer registries and other disease registry solutions. We are also the providers of Alinity™ an enterprise solution for managing professional licensing organizations. All of our solutions are based on customizable frameworks that anticipate unique business requirements and enable a custom fit to be delivered at costs comparable to fixed-packaged software.
